The IRS has announced an extension to file federal individual income tax returns for the 2020 tax year.
The deadline to file federal individual income tax returns was extended to May 17, 2021. All filers now have an extra 31 days to file their tax returns. You do not need to file any additional paperwork to take advantage of this extension.
Since tax day was established as April 15 in 1955, it’s been a very rare occasion for the infamous deadline to be postponed for a significant time period. Most recently, tax day was postponed last year to accommodate the coronavirus situation.
This year, tax day 2021 is set for May 17. Mark your calendars!
